Salem Fiber experienced a system wide outage tonight at approximately 9:25 PM and service was restored at about 9:50 PM. We were notified immediately of the outage and began diagnosing the problem. It was quickly determined the problem was upstream of Salem Fiber and we contacted our service provider which provides redundant Internet links. The Congent network experienced an outage that isolated all of Salt Lake City but because their routers were still servicing our circuit, BGP didn’t failover to the other provider until there was a manual shutdown of the Congent interfaces.
I apologize for the service interruption. System wide outages are extremely rare but can not be completely prevented and I appreciate your patience when it does occur.

Customers located in the Salt Lake City, UT area are without network connectivity due to a Vendor fiber outage. The Cogent Noc is working with the Vendor to have service restored.
